Welcome to the Wild
Introducing Finniss River Lodge — and the stories we’ll share this year

Finniss River Station — a vast, storied 50,000-acre property stretching across the coastal lowlands southwest of Darwin — is one of them. To say it is beautiful feels inadequate. To say it is remote undersells the intimacy of arriving somewhere so quietly extraordinary.
Finniss River Lodge sits at the heart of this property, a luxury wilderness retreat that has earned its place among Australia’s most distinctive escapes. With just six suites and a maximum of fifteen guests at any one time, it offers something increasingly rare in modern travel — genuine seclusion, without sacrificing an ounce of comfort.
This year, we’re opening a new chapter. Each month, we’ll be sharing stories from the Lodge — stories of the seasons, the wildlife, the land, and the people who bring it all to life. Consider this your invitation to look in, wherever you are in the world.
A Lodge Built Around the Land
Everything about Finniss River Lodge begins with its setting. Perched on the edge of vast floodplains, the Lodge overlooks a landscape that shifts dramatically with the seasons. Paperbark forests, monsoon vine thickets, savannah woodlands, coastal country and open wetlands — five distinct ecosystems. It is a place where the natural world is always present.
The architecture responds to this. Floor-to-ceiling windows, expansive open decking, and an infinity-edge pool open toward the floodplain sunsets mean that wherever you are on the property, the landscape is always in view. The Lodge never turns its back on the wild. Neither do we.
“A place that asks something of you: to slow down, look closely, and let the landscape do the talking.”
All-Inclusive, Authentic Northern Territory
Stays at Finniss River Lodge are all-inclusive — every meal, every beverage, and two shared guided outings daily are woven into your stay. Chef Charlotte presents a daily-changing menu anchored in the region: locally sourced produce, native bush ingredients, and food that reflects the extraordinary seasonal abundance of the Top End. The bar is stocked with excellent wines, craft beers, quality spirits and cocktails — and a barista coffee each morning, is a ritual of its own.
Twice daily, guests head out with expert guides. By ATV buggy’s exploring the surrounding floodplains and through the station’s five ecosystems. By airboat— along a spectacular stretch of the Finniss River and its estuary.
What to Expect This Year
Each month brings a different face to the Top End, and we’ll be here to capture it. As the wet season closes and the dry begins to settle, the floodplain transforms almost weekly. Wildlife concentrates. Skies clarify. Burn-offs kindle across the station from April, encouraging new growth and drawing wildlife into the open. The mustering team head out to bring the station’s 4,500 head of cattle in from the paddocks. And as the dry sets in, the landscape reaches stillness that the Top End seems to reserve only for those patient enough to seek it out.
We look forward to sharing it with you.
